Anjela sat towards the back of the tea shop, a newspaper and over priced tea beside her as she exhaustedly looked through the help wanted listings. With every new job having different requirements one would think that at least one would be available to a moderately well behaved student. Even so, there was no point in searching any longer; the newspaper was black, white, and marked all over with her red marker, signifying the fact that every job she’d caught a glimpse of had some requirement she didn’t fit. ‘Too young, too short, too strange, not quite wild enough’.
She put the paper down and sighed.
“I’m going to die if I don’t get a job and eat soon…” she said as a loud clunk and a few crumbs hit her table. She glanced away from her paper and stared at the mouth watering cookie that lay before her. Anjela looked around; her heart beat faster, wondering where it came from and what the price of eating it would be. Nausea, poisoning, paying, or worse, death. All of these things could happen if she ate the cookie, but again, she needed to eat something.
Slowly, she reached out for it, measuring her chances. She’d nearly touched the warm Hershey’s kiss shaped chocolate chip when the cookie fell to the floor. She blinked. Looking around, she seemed to be one of the last customers. Knowing that no one cared she got up to clean the strange mess of crumbs off of the floor when it flinched away across the floor.
“What on earth… what is with this thing?” she mumbled, going to get it again.
Needless to say the cookie continued moving across the floor and Anjela followed. She grew a bit irritated, and before she knew it, she was out on the sidewalk in the lightning filled rain.
“Darn it, what’s going on?!” she shouted angrily at the innocent cookie.
She sighed and began to chase after it again when she was tackled. She began to shout when someone shoved a potato bag over her head. She wiggled, kicked and yelped as she was thrown into a truck and quieted down.
“Quiet down, we’re not going to hurt you. We’re just giving you a job… you did want a job didn’t you?” a muffled voice asked. Anjela shook her head quickly as the truck stopped abruptly and pushed her out with a small clear bag.
“Well that’s too bad! Special Agent Starr has already requested your services.” The man said, taking off the bag. Anjela kicked the man and ran away the first chance she got. She sprinted off, but ran into a door with a large dramatic looking sign in the front: ‘PA Agency’
“Do I smell cookies?!” a voice asked curiously.
Anjel rubbed her head a bit before looking up to notice the Special Agent herself.
“What…? How can you smell cookies…?” Anjela asked, glancing over at the bag. She picked it up in a daze and handed it to her.
“Great, you got the job! Let’s go!” the girl said, taking Anjela’s hand and pulling her into the dark hallway, and into an even darker room.
“My name is Special Agent Starr! You will now be I disagreeistant…. Um…”
“Anjela… err, Anjel.” She said a bit confused.
Starr nodded a bit carelessly and went to sit down at her desk. Not seeing anywhere else to really sit she stood beside the desk.
“So, what do I do now?” Anjela asked as she stole a glance at Starr.
She smiled a bit as her new boss ate her cookies.
“Just wait, some weirdo will come by eventually.” She said.
Anjela nodded and sighed, remembering her own hungry stomach.
“So, am I getting paid as an assistant?” she asked, trying to relieve the silence.
Starr looked over at her and smiled. She dug through the bag and tossed her a cookie.
“Sure, here’s you first day’s pay.” She said.
Anjela caught the cookie and sighed again. “Shoot, works for me.” She mumbled.[/
